Scripture Union Daily Guide 12th May 2025 Outline

Paul now helps us have a deeper understanding of the freedom we have in Christ. True Christian liberty is not freedom to be self-indulgent but rather freedom to serve God and love one another genuinely (Galatians 5:13b-14,25-26). Whereas we are no longer under the Law of Moses, we are under “the law of Christ” which empowers us to love others in fulfilment of the law (see Matthew 22:36-40).

When we love God and others we are saved from self-righteousness and a critical spirit against others which leads us to destroying one another (Galatians 5:15). We must live by the dictates of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:18). He helps us resist the attractions of the works of the flesh which makes us enemies of God. Take time to read Galatians 5:19-21 listing those examples of the works of the flesh.

These often make life difficult for us in our communities. Which of these do you find yourself struggling with? Also note Paul’s warning in Galatians 5:21b. Then consider the virtues produced by the Holy Spirit in a Christian (Galatians 5:22-23). Notice that “fruit” is singular, implying that if any virtue is absent, the fruit is incomplete. Use this list to assess your growth each day.
